Guided Practice

Guided Practices:

If you have established skills in all the Progressive levels, our guided practices are for You! We’ll be offering classes on specific topics to elevate your WCS, with lots of dancing. We’ll post these events soon with details.

Progressive Levels

Progressive Lessons:

Save Sunday evenings for progressive classes for Beginners and Improvers. These will be in 4-week blocks. If you already know some WCS, you might want to take these as a refresher, or try the other role! 

Our Workshops

We’ll be collaborating with DalkingsSwing to offer a monthly socials for Blues and WCS dancers. These have been successful in the past, and we hope you’ll join us. Watch for details when we post the events!

WCS Waterfront Fridays

Location: Tall Ships Quay - 1223 Lower Water St. Halifax
Duration: 2 hours

Starts on Friday, June 14th
Times: 7:00pm to 9:00pm

Our First Friday at the Gazebo!

There is no charge, but donations of $5 will help us cover equipment costs.

Another option is to make a $25 deposit for the whole summer, buy emailing halifaxwestcoastswing@outlook.com.

Weather and volunteer-dependent, we have 10 Fridays at the Gazebo, and 10- Mondays at the Queen’s Landing Wharf (water side of 1721 Lower Water St.). Watch for individual event posts in case we have to cancel by 4pm on Facebook.

We hope to have Fridays on : June `14, 21, Jul 5, 19th, 26, Aug.9, 23, 30, Sep 13.

We hope to have Mondays on: June 24, Jul 8, 15, 22, 29, Aug 12, 19, 26, Sep 2.

Footwear – wear flat or low heeled shoes your are comfortable wearing to dance on the wooden decking. No guarantee we’ll have vinyl flooring for everyone.

Although we don’t have lessons on the Waterfront, you can still come check it out, enjoy the music, and find out a little bit about WCS – we’d love to meet you!

It’s Time for a Guest Instructor Workshop!! All Star Kristen Shaw is coming to Halifax!!

You don’t want to miss classes, a practice, and social with Kristen, who is a regular on the West Coast Swing Competition circuit!

As a lifelong dancer, West Coast Swing competitor, Event Director, Instructor, and Deejay, Kristen brings her dance styling, professionalism, and knowledge to our growing Halifax dance community – kshawcreates.com

Many of the dedicated East Coast Westies have been following Kristen’s performances, competitions, and have even taken classes with her. We know she will bring knowledge and inspiration to our dancers.

  • June 8th, Saturday, 9:30am – 2:30pm 4 HOURS GROUP CLASSES (plus lunch break with practice time).

  • June 8th, Saturday, 8-10pm. SOCIAL DANCE.

  • June 9th, Sunday, 9:30-11:30am. ADD-ON CLASS for Advanced Westies.
    Happy Soul Dance Studios, 3089 Oxford St, Halifax.
  • $110 June 7-8 (5 hours of classes + 3 hours practice/social).
  • $30 June 9 Add-on (with June7-8 registration = $140).
  • June 7-8 is appropriate for dancers who dance on time without pauses, using Left Side Pass, Right Side Underarm, Push Break, Tuck Turn, and Whip. Ask your local instructor if you are unsure. (Attendance of April-May classes and socials are good opportunities if you are still developing your skills).
  • June 9 Add-on is appropriate for the more experienced dancers who also have competency in turns, variations, and are ready for musicality.

REGISTRATION will be limited as we try to achieve an effective role balance – so completing your registration as early as possible will hold your place!

Email halifaxwestcoastswing@outlook.com with each dancer’s name, primary role (lead or follow), secondary role (lead or follow). We will confirm etransfer information once we determine there is space in the classes.
