MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Myles tessa

Myles Munroe and Tessa Cunningham Munroe are West Coast Swing Champions based in Vancouver, Canada. Since 2002, they have been ambassadors for modern, authentic West Coast Swing: teaching, judging, performing and competing globally. As master teacher trainers, they help teachers all over the world #teachWCSsmarter and dancers #trainWCSsmarter with their signature Swing Literacy method.

Myles has 38 years of diverse dance training on over 30 dance styles including 6 UCWDC World Championship titles, and multiple time Runner-Up at the US Open. Myles has taken that experience and knowledge and applied it to being a Chief Judge for the last 14 years.

Myles has been teaching for 29 years and brings a comedic approach and accessible delivery of quality foundational technique to his teaching, inspiring and empowering students of all levels, all over the world.

This workshop is for you if:
  1. You’re competent in these basic patterns: push break, left side pass (plus inside turn variation), right side underarm pass, tuck turn, free spin, and whip (with inside and outside turn variations).
  2. You can dance continuously through a song.
  3. You’ve taken Basics Plus or Improver-level classes or have equivalent experience.
  4. You’re an experienced Westie who is working on your technique and skills for dancing with other levels of dancers, and you’re looking for opportunities to develop your skills and repertoire.

This event is not for absolute beginners. Check with your instructors if you are uncertain about any of these competencies.

OPTIONS:

Full workshop, all-levels $100:

FRIDAY, MAY 22

Lesson, All Levels: Body and Arm Styling

  • You have so many ways to add style to your dancing using your body. Myles will teach how to bring more (but not too much) flair to your dancing.
  • 7:00-8:00 PM
  • Limited space and role balance applies

Social Dance, All Levels

  • This special West Coast Swing social welcoming our guest, Myles Munroe, is for everyone! (You do not need to be attending the workshop to join in.)
  • 8:00-10:00 PM
  • FREE to attend, drop-in

SATURDAY, MAY 23

Lesson, All-Levels

  • Four terrific topics:
    • The best connection you’ve ever had: we’re studying tension and stretch, compression, and pressure.
    • Styling with powerful vs elegant Movements: learn how to create the style you feel fits you best.
    • Musical agility: adapt your base body movements to Fast Pop, Blues, Lyrical, and R&B genres
    • Auto-correct while dancing: learn how to make any dance work by adapting for partners with who might be missing certain fundamental techniques.
  • 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Four hours of instruction plus one hour open practice
  • Limited space and role balance applies
  • $80, or included in weekend rate; dancer application and registration required

SUNDAY, MAY 24

Lesson, Improver Level

  • Who’s ready for a challenge?! If you’ve been looking to really level-up your dancing, don’t miss this invitational class! We’re working on:
    • Dips and rides
    • The conversation game, exploring the play space and freedom for expression
  • 2:15-4:15 PM
  • Prerequisites: minimum one year of consistent West Coast Swing dancing, including social dances and classes. Must have completed at least Basics, Basics Plus, and two Improver series.
  • Limited space and role balance applies
  • $40; dancer application and registration required. Spots will be assigned based on experience, and role balance. 
  • St. Andrew’s Community Centre

Get private instruction and feedback from Myles on your Lead, Follow, or Switch dancing

LENGTH: 50 minute sessions

DATES: Available with advance booking for Friday, May 22 (morning/early afternoon); Sunday, May 24, (morning).

COST: $200 CDN cash

There is an additional $30 fee required as e-Transfer to Halifax West Coast Swing to reserve and confirm your space at the venue.

FORMAT, EITHER:

  • Single dancer, you receive all feedback (you are required to bring a dance helper of the opposite role), or
  • Dancer pair, both people receive feedback

Each dancer must register individually, please do not submit for two people on one form. Spots will be confirmed after May 11, 2026.
